Episode 61: Event Prep Series #3 – Race Warm-Ups

This is installment number 3 in our rapid-release series of episodes intended to help you get your game-face on and ready to race!

One of the most common questions we get from athletes is “how should I warm-up for my race?”

Warm-ups are a tricky subject. The science says one thing, while 10 different athletes will tell you 10 different things… well one thing we can tell you is that warm-ups are highly individual and there are many factors at play.

In this episode we discuss several of the variables that influence warm-ups such as:

  • Event Duration
  • Race Start Speed
  • Venue
  • Weather
  • Fitness
  • Psychology

Then we share our “standard warm-up” protocol and provide some suggestions on how to modify based on the several variables that you may encounter.

Two big takeaways we hit on repeatedly are: Less is often more; and practice makes perfect (for you!).
